Forever Yours Esthetics Laser Tattoo Removal Aftercare
Please keep in mind that the healing is process individualized. Provided are aftercare instructions that address all the things that can happen during the healing process. You may not experience all the things described but you may experience them all. Each person, each treatment allows for a new healing experience. You will learn a protocol that works best for you as you move ahead with the course of treatment.
- Immediately post treatment the area can be red and swollen and will feel much like bad sunburn. The treated area may be raised (swollen) and have a redness surrounding it. During the next 24 to 72 hours the treatment site may form blisters. The blisters may get worse before they get better. Try to avoid popping the blisters and picking at the treated area as this can cause scarring. Crusting, scabbing and oozing can occur; this is all a normal part of the healing process. Failing to allow normal healing of the treatment site will increase the possibility of scar formation and can lead to infection. The healing process can take anywhere from a 10 -14 days.
- Upon completion of the laser process a thin coat of bacitracin ointment will be applied to the area and it will be covered with a sterile non stick bandage. For the next 24 hours (and in some cases, up to one week) you will continue to apply bacitracin twice a day & a new clean bandage to the treatment site. It is important to keep the treated area clean and bandaged for the first 72 hours and may need to be bandaged for up to a week. Only use a non stick bandage.
- It is very important that you allow the treated area to breath for at least 2 hours a day. This means no bandage & no ointment on the treatment site.
- When showering avoiding extremely hot water and too much water pressure on the treatment site. Wash it with an antibacterial soap and pat dry thoroughly & than apply a thin coat of bacitracin ointment & than a bandage if necessary.
- By the 5th to 7th day post treatment, when the blisters are healing & the area begins to scab, it is recommended to keep the area bandaged half the day and uncovered for the other half of the day.. Consider covering during your work day and taking the dressing off for the duration of your day, allowing air to get to the treatment site.
- As the healing process continues the treated are will become very dry & itchy. At this point a bandage is not necessary & you can stop using bacitracin but start to use a moisturizer designed for dry skin such as, Aquafor.
- For the first 10-14 days post treatment avoid baths, hot tubs and swimming. Working out intensely should be avoided for the first 72 hours. Avoid sun exposure while going through the laser process. It is very important that the area be protected from sun damage by using a zinc sunscreen that will block the sun completely. As the site heals, newly formed skin will be more sensitive to sun damage.
- Under normal conditions, the process which breaks down the tattoo pigment begins immediately after the treatment. The ink will continue to fall out until about the 4th to 6th week post treatment. You will see the pigment in your tattoo break up day to day, week to week. For this reason, treatments are scheduled no closer than 4 weeks apart
